Sun Yuyin’s (Stephanie’s) journey started with an SQA Advanced Diploma in Business with Accounting in China, which allowed her to get entry to an undergraduate degree course in Accounting at a Canadian university.

‘I selected South China Normal University to study my SQA Advanced Diploma because of its excellent reputation in the field, and the SQA programme is appealing to students seeking opportunities for studying abroad.’
When did you start thinking about your options for higher education and where did you find information to help you decide your next steps?
‘During my last year of the Advanced Diploma, I decided to go into higher education. I found more information on the University’s website and contacted a student enrolment counsellor. After consideration, I chose Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) to continue my studies.’
Achieving a university degree
‘KPU is an institution that places equal emphasis on both practical application and theoretical understanding. Access to internships through the school will significantly enhance my practical experience, furthering my knowledge and competitiveness. I aspire to elevate my education and expand my cognitive horizons.
I selected Accounting as my field of study because I had previously majored in Business Accounting, and fortunately, my transfer credits seamlessly facilitated my transition into this new academic journey. Being a business student, I am eager to delve deeper into the subject matter and apply this knowledge to real-life scenarios.’
How was your overall experience?
‘Studying and residing in a foreign country is an invaluable life experience. The Student Learning Centre at KPU provides engaging after-school activities in which I have consistently taken part, fostering new friendships along the way.'
What are your plans for the future?
'After I finish my studies, I intend to explore job opportunities both in my home country and in Canada.’
What advice would you give to someone interested in Diploma to Degree?
‘Discover your passions, select a major that aligns with your strengths, stay informed about developments in your field, proactively design your study curriculum, and seize every opportunity to broaden your horizons.’
